About

Digital Product Design

It’s a very broad term which cannot be described in one sentence. Digital Product Design is not only what user sees like visual effects, copy text, animations, structure - it’s everything all together which provides the final product. It’s the whole process.

If we want to illustrate the Digital Product Design phases it can be presented as the Double Diamond model. In order to discover which ideas are best, the creative process is iterative. This means that ideas are developed, tested and refined a number of times, with weak ideas dropped during the process.

Discover

The first quarter of the Double Diamond model covers the start of the project. What your customers think of the company? What you want to accomplish? Serious questions need to be answered at this stage.

Define

The goal here is to develop a clear creative brief that frames the fundamental design challenge. You should analyse your observations and combine them in order to define the main problems that you and your team have identified up to this point.

Develop

The third quarter marks a period of development where solutions or concepts are created, prototyped, tested and iterated. This process of trial and error helps designers to improve and refine their ideas.

Delivery

The final quarter of the double diamond model is the delivery stage, where the resulting project is finalised, produced and launched. Product iteration occurs through customer feedback and validation.

„Product designers deliver designs that are good for business, and measurable, profitable, & helpful for the customer.”

Great designers are great listeners and problem-solvers. They create products which are understandable, useful, innovative and long-lasting. The more they grow as personas and thinkers, the better their design work will be. If you are following some of the principles of good design and making your clients’ lives better - you can call yourself a designer.

Understanding Design Process

Scientists use the scientific method to make testable explanations and predictions about the world. A scientist asks a question and develops a set of experiments to answer that question. Product Designers use the design process to create solutions to problems.

“We’re not designing for numbers, we’re designing for people.”Margaret Gould Stewart
